A gift of Grace.

The sound of the bagpipes have always provided dignity and solemnity during times of mourning. Now more than ever, the sorrow of grief-stricken families is compounded by social distancing restrictions imposed at funerals. To help assuage the anguish of their bereavement, the Wake and District Pipe Band is working with Funeral Directors in the Raleigh region to provide our amazing music, a gift of grace for the families of loved lost. On Monday, February 4, 2019 -- the sound of the bagpipes filled the air at the Raleigh Police Memorial in honor of a Raleigh Police Officer killed in the line of duty 39 years earlier.   Raleigh Police Chief, Cassandra Deck-Brown reflected on the service and sacrifice of this officer. On Wednesday, 05 December 2018 the sound of the bagpipes filled the air at the Raleigh Police Memorial in honor of 2 Raleigh Police Officers killed in the line of duty 50 years earlier.  Raleigh Police Chief, Cassandra Deck-Brown reflected on the service and sacrifice of these officers.  While the full comments are listed below, the symbolism of the riderless horse she spoke of,  “a warrior…that guardian who will ride no more...”  grounds us and guides us to remain true

Our Mark.

In 2011 the band worked with a local Raleigh designer, Joel Perrego of VAST DESIGN on branding the band.  We told Joel and his team we are a public safety bagpipe and drum band with a mission to provide a distinguishing tribute for our fallen comrades and to be in service to the families of public safety employees of the Raleigh region and across North Carolina. We desire to strengthen relations between the protective services and the public while preserving cultural heritage
