Teachable Spirit.

Writer: Wake and DistrictWake and District

We all get corrected. Looking back on my life, the correction almost always came from someone who cared about me. We have choices on how we respond to correction:

  1. We can accept it with resignation;

  2. We can accept it with self-pity, thinking we don’t deserve it;

  3. We can be angry and resent or blame the other person or

  4. We can accept it gratefully.

In the Life Lessons for Athletes booklet one of the ten character traits that should be learned by musicians is a Teachable Spirit - the ability to take correction as a compliment.

The other person cares for and believes in us. If you can learn it as a young musician, it will benefit you for life.
