This weekend marks the spectacle of the 64th Annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games at MacRae Meadows on Grandfather Mountain near Linville, NC.
Although Wake and District has never been formally invited to participate at these games as their is limited space for pipe bands — several of our members will once again be embedded on the mountain – creating and partaking in the shenanigans — as well as participating in solo and quartet competitions.
Here is a bit of info on this amazing event (as found on their website @ www.gmhg.org):
THEIR MUTUAL VISION: We will constantly strive to be the premier Scottish Highland games and gathering of Clans, Guests, Families, Sponsors, Patrons and Visitors. We will work diligently to be the model games of integrity and excellence for all.
THEIR MISSION: To carry on and promote the annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and Gathering of Scottish Clans, to foster and restore interest in traditional dancing, piping, drumming, athletic achievement, music and Gaelic culture, and to establish scholarship funds to assist students from Avery County High School to study at American colleges and universities.
To all our mountain family, friends and fans – safe travels and have a grand time rain or shine.
