Pipes, drums, Scottish dancers, special performances and a Burns Night tradition come together for one unforgettable evening.

CLAYTON, N.C. – Wake & District Public Safety Pipes and Drums will celebrate two decades of music, service and community with Bagpipes and Drums in Concert, Saturday, January 23, 2027, at 6 p.m. at The Clayton Center.

More Than a Pipe Band Concert

The concert will bring audiences much more than a traditional pipe band performance.

The evening will feature the skirl of the bagpipes, the beat of the drums, the grace of Scottish dancers and a variety of special performances, all woven together into an evening celebrating Scottish music, culture, community and a few surprises along the way.

And since the concert arrives during Burns Night weekend, there will be haggis.

In honor of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, the evening will include the traditional Address to the Haggis, bringing a little ceremony, poetry and good Scottish humor to the stage.

Celebrating 20 Years

Founded in 2006, Wake & District marks its 20th anniversary during the 2026-27 season.

The Raleigh-area nonprofit pipe and drum band has deep roots in the public safety community and was created around a simple mission: For Our Fallen.

Over the past two decades, members have performed at public safety ceremonies, memorials, graduations, community celebrations, parades, competitions and countless moments where the sound of the pipes has helped mark something worth remembering.

For Band Manager and founder Joe Brady, the anniversary concert is as much about the people behind the music as the music itself.

“Twenty years goes by incredibly fast. When we started Wake & District, we wanted to build something rooted in service, friendship and remembrance. Music brought us together, but the people, the relationships and the moments we have been privileged to be part of are what gave the Band its meaning. This concert gives us a chance to look back with gratitude, enjoy where we are today and share a little of where we are going next. Most importantly, we get to do it together, on stage, with our community in the room.”

While the pipes and drums remain at the heart of the show, Bagpipes and Drums in Concert is designed for longtime pipe band fans and newcomers alike.

Expect tradition. Expect energy. Expect a few unexpected moments.

And yes, expect bagpipes. Lots of bagpipes.
