During the ceremony, Col. McNeil conducted a moment of silence in memory of those who have lost their life as a result of the storm. He also expressed his true appreciation for all first responders and volunteers who have provided emergency services since the storm hit NC.

The band is privileged to rehearse weekly on the grounds of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol training academy in Raleigh – and we hope we didn’t district these recruits during their journey to be come TROOPERS with the skirl of the bagpipes and war beat of the drums during our weekly band practices. Â
We wish all of these new State Troopers success and safety in the years of service ahead; be careful out there…
A Trooper's Prayer Be Thou my Vision, my light and my guide
Lord, keep me safe when dark highways I ride
My shield and my protection when in danger I walk
Give me courage when by fear I am stalked.
Comfort the families of those who have gone before
Lord, ease our grief, our souls restore
Our loved ones are the righteous, forever they stand
To take their places at Your right hand.
With dedication they led the life they chose
And suffered the thorn to leave us the rose
Brave lives were not wasted, they gave us their love,
Their lives, our inspiration: their memory, our strength.
We who are left salute their brave deeds
We'll cary on with the duty they leave,
They'll be our heroes; their valor will lead
In courage and honor, we will always believe.
